The CajaCanarias Foundation continues tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9, the programming of its Forum Health and Wellness 2024 which, in this edition, aims to address, through reflection and debate, the reality of eating disorders and fatphobia. In this way, the CajaCanarias Cultural Space in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host, starting at 7:00 p.m. and with free entry until capacity is reached, the second session of this initiative, titled TCA in the Canary Islands and starring Ana Jéssica Jorge Herrera, María González Abreu, Chaxiraxi Bencomo Arteaga, Martina Pacífico and Patricia Palenzuela Ramos. The objective of this new edition is to reveal the causes, symptoms, guidelines and patterns that lead to such practices, as well as to break the prejudices and taboos that exist around diverse bodies, emphasizing obese bodies and people who suffer from eating disorders. In these sessions, topics such as present and past fatphobia, the consequences on mental health (EDs, dysmorphia, etc.) and the stereotypes that exist around bodies will be discussed. In this space, in addition, the current reality of eating disorders in the Canary Islands in particular will be analyzed, together with professionals from the health and social field.

Ana Jessica Jorge Herrera She graduated in Social Work from the University of La Laguna and has been working as a social worker at the Alabente Association since January 2022, performing functions such as providing information, guidance and advice; reception and social care for patients and families; social evaluation and diagnosis; coordination with other associations and institutions and public and private resources; request and justification for financial aid and subsidies; carrying out group therapies and family schools; organization and participation in therapeutic outings; or participation in the media, among others. Likewise, his academic training also includes completion of the Higher Specialist Course in Eating Disorders.
Maria Gonzalez Abreu She has a degree in Social Work from the University of La Laguna and a master’s degree in Gender Studies and Equality Policies. She has been working as a social worker at the Alabente Association since July 2024, performing functions such as providing information, guidance and advice; reception and social care for patients and families; social evaluation and diagnosis; coordination with other associations and institutions and public and private resources; request and justification for financial aid and subsidies; conducting group therapies and workshops aimed at patients and families; or organization and participation in therapeutic outings, among others.
Chaxiraxi Bencomo Arteagaspecialist in Dietetics and Nutrition, has served as coordinator of the dietary part of the Alabente Association since July 2001, developing functions such as the management and administration of the Association; provide information, guidance and advice; development of personalized menus and guidelines for patients with eating disorders; reeducation in eating habits; individual and family dietary therapies; control, review and correction of eating habits in the entity’s Therapeutic Dining Room; control and supervision of safety and hygiene guidelines and food traceability in the kitchen area of the Day Center; participation in the preparation of projects and supporting reports; preparation and delivery of informative talks in Educational, Health and Social Centers; participation in media; o development of group therapies and family schools; among others. Likewise, it has specific training on TCA.
Martina Pacifico She has been president of the Alabente Association since 2017. Committed to the prevention and awareness of eating disorders (ED), she participates in different media and in the association’s activities, exposing her testimony as a person who has lived with and has recovered from a TCA.
Patricia Palenzuela Ramos She is a qualified health psychologist (T- 2178), an expert in anxiety, eating disorders and emotional dependence, with extensive training in each area of specialization. Thus, he has more than 20 years of experience in the area of psychology, after completing his studies at the University of La Laguna, specializing in neuropsychology and educational psychology. Her first professional careers were developed in the Lanzarote Association of Relatives of Patients with Alzheimer’s and Other Dementia, working as a psychologist, carrying out cognitive stimulation activities, as well as diagnostic evaluation of patients, and also combining this activity with private consultation. She provided her services as a psychologist in a private medical center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife carrying out evaluation, diagnosis and treatment tasks and, since October 2017, she has worked independently as a qualified health psychologist with a specialty in psychonutrition, in person and online, treating cases on eating disorders, addressing any problem linked to the person’s character, their emotions and/or their behavior. He also gives talks and workshops on psychonutrition and emotional management.
Carlos Centurion He was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1979. He studied History and Journalism at the University of La Laguna. He began his professional career on the Cope and RNE networks. In 2005 he joined the news services of Radio Televisión Canaria, where he has developed practically his entire career. During this time he has been editor, presenter and editor of different news programs on the network. He currently edits the Atlantic Newsa news program focused mainly on national and international news.
